This hardcover journal features Alexander Calder's sketch of his sculpture The Forest is the Best Place (1945) debossed on the front, with his signature on the back cover.

Throughout his career, Alexander Calder illustrated many of his mobiles and stabiles for exhibition catalogues. These sketches express the dynamic nature of his output in two dimensions and offer valuable insight into their composition. He once wrote, “A mobile in motion leaves an invisible wake behind it, or rather, each element leaves an individual wake behind its individual self.”
