Alexander Calder "Eye" Dad Cap
This dad cap features a detail extracted from Alexander Calder's Untitled (1947). The eye on the front and the artist's signature on the back are both embroidered.
Select curvilinear motifs abound in Calder’s works. These intuitively distilled patterns, rhythms, and symbols reappear across mediums, expressing endless motion. “There are environments that appear to remain fixed,” he once wrote, “whilst there are small occurrences that take place at great speed across them.” The various iterations of spirals in Calder’s two-dimensional works—projections from a plane into space—highlight his interest in the fourth dimension.
