The Scarlet Leafwing is a master of duality. While its upper side flashes a brilliant, fiery orange, its underside is a perfect botanical mimic, complete with fake veins and fungal spots. Remarkably, these butterflies avoid flowers: they thrive by sipping fermented fruit and tree sap, using their "dead leaf" disguise to vanish against the forest floor.
