Mallard ducks are found on every continent except Antarctica and are one of the most recognizable species of waterfowl in the world. The males, or drakes, have distinctive green heads and iridescent feathers, while the females, or hens, are mottled brown. They are excellent swimmers and divers and are able to fly at speeds of up to 55 miles per hour.
